View Company: SEMLEP
The South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP) is a local economic development company with a private sector led Board. It covers 11 local authority areas with a population of 1.8m. It is strategically located between London and the Midlands and Oxford and Cambridge with key road and rail links including the M40 and M1 and the west coast mainline and midland mainline. The east west rail project linking Oxford to Milton Keynes, Bedford and ultimately Cambridge, is under construction.
The area consists of four unitary local authorities: Bedford, Central Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes and seven district councils. These are Aylesbury Vale in Bucks, Cherwell in Oxfordshire, and South Northants, Daventry, Northampton, Kettering and Corby in Northamptonshire. Our partnership has strong leadership and well-articulated plans together with the delivery credentials to unlock the full growth potential of the area, which is already the second largest area for sustainable housing growth outside London.
The LEP works closely with residential and commercial developers and benefits from an advisory group to the Board, known as the Property Development, Investment and Infrastructure Delivery Group. This group also has representatives from the Homes and Communities Agency, Environment Agency, Highways Agency and Network Rail together with local authority planning officers.
SEMLEP has recently been awarded £79.3m from Government in the form of a Local Growth Deal, which will provide the necessary infrastructure to create at least 3,000 new jobs and enable 4,000 new homes to be built by 2021.
